Fin5 2021 – orienteering week is planned to be organized taking into account the corona situation with exceptional arrangements. The event will be held from 11 to 16 July 2021, first two days in Posio in Kirintövaara and after one rest day in the last three races in Kuusamo Meskusvaara. The competition centers are located in typical danger landscapes of the Northeast.
-The corona epidemic postponed the events from 2020 and we have worked hard to organize orienteering week in safe conditions in July 2021. During the last year, Kuusamon Erä-Veikot has organized several international and national race events taking into account the changing epidemic regulations. We have carefully followed the instructions of the authorities, with which we have been able to avoid the spread of the epidemic to the local area, says Seppo Linjakumpu, Secretary General of the Fin5 2021 event.
-We have consulted several times with the health authorities of the region, the Finnish Orienteering Association, the Kainuu Orienteering Week and the actors of the Jukola Message to find workable solutions for the arrangements of the orienteering week. Thanks to vaccinations and strict containment measures, the corona epidemic has been better managed in Finland during the spring, and this will enable event arrangements for participants in a safe way in July, says Linjakumpu.
–Organization of orienteering competitions for licensed athletes is possible in the summer without personal restrictions. With regard to fitness orienteering, we follow the restrictions in the area. A limit of 50 people at public events is expected for the summer, so the division into 50-person “starting groups” is to be applied in open series. The instructions of the competition follow the instructions of the Finnish Orienteering Federation in organizing a safe competition event.
Free departure times are used for departures, except for E-series. These instructions will be specified and announced on the event’s website, 2021.fin5.fi and in other information channels and instructions for the event.
-As competition organizers, we are confident so that we can offer orienteering families a memorable week of orienteering in the Northeast Finland. In summer, the area offers plenty of attractions and activities during the holiday week. The forthcoming Fin5-magazine will tell you more about the offer of tourism. There are plenty of accommodation options in the area, for every taste. Contact information can be found on the event website.
The next registration threshold expires on May 31, 2021, so now is a good time to make decisions about participating in Fin5- orienteering week. We welcome orienteers to Fin5-orienteering week, concludes Seppo Linjakumpu.
