Taulavuori and Glebov the fastest of the Day

Venla Taulavuori, Alatornion Pirkat, won the women’s main series on a distance of 8.3 km.

-Feeling good. There were few errors. Really great terrain in all respects. Today it was important to look at what is essential to read, Taulavuori rejoiced.

SK Pohjantähti’s Marttiina Joensuu was second with a small difference before her club friend Sofia Haajanen.

– There were small mistakes, I was sure to proceed. I liked it terribly, said Haajanen, who was third in the day’s competition.

After two races, the women’s series will be led by Elisa Mattila (LS-37) with a difference of 35 seconds before Joensuu. Haajanen and Taulavuori are currently competing for the third place of the week.

The overwhelming winner of the men’s series, more than six minutes before the next, was Ruslan Glebov from Ukraine, who came to Finland from last week´s World Championship competition.

– Today was smaller and more readable, which suits me compared to yesterday, where I had to rely more on direction. After all, the terrain here is different from what is in Central Europe, a happy Ukrainian said.

At the same time, Glebov also took the lead, well over six minutes, in the overall competition of Fin5 Orienteering Week.

Second in the 11.3-kilometer race was Einari Heinaro (HS) and third Arttu Syrjäläinen (HS)

. – It’s okay. It ended with a bigger hook and small curves. Fighting victory, however, because the physical mood was not so good. However, the control points clicked in place as I went more moderately than yesterday, Heinaro said.

The second of the whole week is yesterday’s winner Samu Heiska (TuME) before Heinaro.

The winners of the 1st and 2nd competitions will be awarded today at 7pm at Ruka

The winners of the 1st and 2nd competitions will be awarded today at 7 pm in Ruka, Kuusamo, at the Rukankylä Tykky observation tower. Address Rukankyläntie 17, 93825 Kuusamo. Welcome ?

The professional photographer’s photo bank is now open

We are now happy to reveal that on Sunday our professional photographer Keijo Lehtimäki was photographing at the competition center and the rest of the terrain. This summer, in addition to orienteers, Keijo has now photographed e.g. also bears.

Click on the link to see if you have been photographed. There are also pictures in the image bank that you can buy for yourself. : D

Keijo said he took 2,500 pictures on Sunday, the best of which is in the picture bank. The descriptions are also known at least in Wednesday’s Competition in Meskusvaara. We appreciate and thank you very much: D

Statement of the Course Setters: Competition Day 2

Competition Day 2 – Kuoppavaara, Course Setters: Jarmo Pyhtinen and Sanna Soudunsaari (children)

The second race, which runs in Kuoppavaara, contains more rocky and canvas terrain than on Sunday. Also the the hills are more gently sloping.

There is an open pine forest, which is crossed by bogs. It is important to distinguish the essential from the map.

Route selection are provided. Water areas may appear larger due to rainfall.

Children’s courses once again rely on trail bottoms and snowmobile trails. It is important taking the time to orient the map.

The terrain is also crossed in the vicinity of the competition center by a forbidden road leading to the competition center, which is only allowed to be crossed at marked crossing points.

In all series, the control points are placed in the vicinity of the road crossing point. In RR-series there is control point, which is same with other series. There is RR code and numerical code. It does not matter which stamp you use to get the result.

Samu Heiska and Inka Nurminen are fastest on Sunday

Turku Forest Visitors’ Samu Heiska won the 1st stage of the men’s main series 5 seconds before Lauri Nenonen from the Kalevan Rasti. Glebov Ruslan from Ukraine, who orientated the World Championship silver in 2018, came third. A total of 57 orienteers set off on the men’s 6 kilometer course.

– It was nice and good visibility, Heiska rejoiced at the finish in the interviewer’s interview.

The women’s 5.1 km route was won by Inka Nurminen of Jämsä Retki-Veikot, just over a minute ahead of Netta Rajamäki of Kalevan Rasti. Siiri Silvennoinen from Kalevan Rasti was third.

Statement of the Course Setters, Competition Day 1

Participants in the Fin5 Orienteering Week will be offered five very different types of orienteering competitions. Mid-distance races ask orienteers the ability to concentrate tightly and smoothly switch between orienteering techniques. Two long-distance races challenge their route choices and put endurance to the test. For the most part, the terrain is quite good in all races, although visibility varies greatly. The skill of slope orienteering will increase in value during the week. For all series, every race has been designed to provide access to the best parts of the terrain.

The dry summer has meant that the bogs are for the most part fairly hard-bottomed and well-run. In general, it is good to know that weaker paths and tracks have not been depicted on the maps, and some new animal paths have emerged only recently so that they have not been included on the map. However, these are not important for route choices or navigation, but it is mainly a good idea to be aware of their possibility.

Especially in middle distance races, you should be careful when coming to the cross, as there are very frequent crosses in all three terrains. The codes are printed on the map next to the serial number of the check marks, so checking is easy.

Although efforts have been made to draw children’s trails based on clear objects, especially in the vicinity of Meskusvaara, the vegetation is so dense in places that it can be difficult to perceive. With children navigating straight trails, it may be wise to repeat the orientation of the map with a compass.

Competition 1 – Kirintövaara Course Setters: Esa Mursu and Sanna Soudunsari (children).

The Fin5 Orienteering Week opens on the steep slopes of Kirintövaara. The woods are mainly northeastern candle spruce, which is crossed by ski slopes and trail bottoms. From a orienteeres point of view, the terrain requires approaches typical of Central European terrains; keeping the compass direction as well as perceiving and maintaining the level becomes unpredictable.

On the shortest adult lines, the ascent amount is not accumulated at all with faultless performance, as the starting points are near the peak of Kirintövaara. On longer and especially elite tracks, on the other hand, you are asked for gunpowder from the thigh, when the slope of danger is also pained uphill. However, remember to leave strength for future ascents as well! The children ‘s starting point is closer to the competition center at the foot of the danger, and there is more of an ascent. The trails rely on a network of pistes and ski slopes.

Please, do your emit changes at Fin5 info in the competition center!

Emit changes for open series must be made in the Fin5 info at the competition center (not at the starting area). So the same instructions as in the competition series. So take care of it before you leave, please.

In addition, we recommend that you use the Internet and telephone as little as possible, especially in the Posio competition area, so that the necessary telephone and Internet traffic is ensured. Please turn off your mobile data, too.

Also, write down your own departure times in advance. Of course, the hand program includes the starting lists and competition instructions for the E-series, as well as the statements of the track masters and supervisors, as well as greetings from the representatives of the area.
